Sounds About White: The Untold Story of the DEI Expert

A Short Documentary Directed by Dr. Akilah Cadet

In May of 2020, in the midst of an unprecedented global pandemic and the "Summer of Allyship" that followed the murder of George Floyd, Dr. Akilah Cadet's business was suddenly booming. Organizations across the globe were scrambling to address inequity in their workplace cultures, and as a recognized expert in organizational development, change management, and yes, DEI, Dr. Cadet was in high demand. Four years later, DEI is under attack and programs designed for improving the experience of oppressed groups, and all employees, in the workplace and society are disappearing. Sounds About White: The Untold Story of the DEI Expert provides an intimate look into the experience of Dr. Cadet during this period. From managing and celebrating the deluge of interest and new clients, to navigating flagging commitment, racism, disability and depression, Dr. Cadet's story is emblematic of the toll it takes to dismantle white supremacy day in and day out.
